The game “The Medium” becomes a television series

Bloober Team

Bloober Team (“Layers of Fear”) has announced that its 2021 paranormal thriller video game “The Medium” will be adapted into a live-action television series in co-production with Polish visual effects company Platige Image.

The game sees players assume the role of Marianne, a medium living in post-communist Poland who is able to travel between the normal world and the spirit realm.

Recurring visions, the death of a foster parent, and a mysterious man named Thomas lead Marianne to attempt to solve a murder mystery tied to the origin of her powers.

The series release will be helmed by filmmaker Tomasz Baginski, who is a producer on Netflix’s “The Witcher” series and created the cinematic intros for all three CD Projekt Red “Witcher” games.

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno co-leads the project and says the recent success of Netflix’s television adaptations of the game inspired the project. In a statement, Babieno said:

“The story we told in the game has been loved by gamers, and now more people will be able to hear about it. The latest hits from game-based streaming platforms such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners or Arcane have shown that it t is the perfect time for such productions.

The participation in the creative supervision of the project of such an important figure of Polish cinema as Tomasz Bagiński proves that we want to create something truly amazing. The whole team working on the concept of the series felt that they were working on something special, we hope that this enthusiasm will show in the quality of the series.

“The Medium” is partly inspired by Konami’s revered “Silent Hill” franchise, and earlier this year Bloober announced that its next title would be based on an existing horror IP from a famous game publisher that has fueled speculation of a “Silent Hill” revival.
