The Upside Down just got a whole lot bigger than Hawkins, Indiana. On Wednesday, July 6, the Duffer Brothers announced their new production shingle – movie industry slang for a small company within a big company – Upside Down Pictures, as part of their overall deal with Netflix, in a Deadline exclusive. The announcement follows the release of stranger thingsrecord fourth season, which had the biggest ever premiere for an English-language TV show on Netflix. As the duo complete the final season of stranger things, they are working hard on their list of upcoming projects. What’s on the record, you may ask? Well there are two stranger things spin-offs: the first being a science-fiction play, produced by famous British theater veterans Sonia Friedman and Stephen Daldry, with help from Netflix, of course; the second is a television spin-off based on a pitch by the Duffers themselves.

The brothers will also venture outside the world of Demogorgons and Mind Flayers with their television adaptations of the hit manga. Death threat – its second adaptation – and the 1984 novel The talisman. This latest project is more fantasy horror and less science fiction and is set in an alternate world in which a young man must find a talisman to save his mother’s life. Finally, Upside Down Pictures is developing an original IP: Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) are working on an unannounced new series. It would be an irresponsible narrative choice, but showing a stranger thingsDeath threat crossover episode… Gotta see who beats who in a fight.
