Ryan Gosling reportedly joined Mysterious Ocean’s Eleven prequel and reunited with Margot Robbie

According to a new report from Puck NewsRyan Gosling and Margot Robbie have signed on to star in a Ocean’s Eleven prequel to Warner Bros. Discovery!

This news comes after the pair recently wrapped production on Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie movie (yes, it’s happening, it wasn’t one of your fever dreams), so it looks like they enjoyed working together enough to sign off on another project. Warner Bros. would aim to increase the budget of this film, which would be even larger than the production budget of 70 million dollars of Ocean 8the newest film in the franchise.

Puck News notes that “the new one will be more theatrical and maybe even summer-worthy,” but says it won’t cost “near the $200 million Netflix burned on Gosling’s.” The gray man.”

will be the Ocean’s Eleven Prequel Save WBD?

This move towards larger, more sprawling filmmaking is a strategic shift for Warner Bros. Discovery, which has seen a lot of upheaval in recent months. The company recently recruited a new CEO in the form of David Zaslav, who appointed producers Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to oversee Warner Bros.’ film division.

This move was quickly followed by the surprise (and highly controversial) removal of the bat girl film, which was almost entirely done with filming and reportedly cost $90 million to produce. Zaslav and his new management claimed that the move was to save the studio money and that they would focus on making more theatrical level films in the future (bat girl was to air exclusively on HBO Max).

If the report on the oceans prequel is correct, it will undoubtedly be one of the “theatrical” films Warner Bros. is banking on for its financial future.

On paper, the move makes perfect sense. The oceans The franchise is certainly one of the most important and recognizable IPs that Warner Bros. has in his possession (but hey, Batman too, but that’s just my opinion). The cast of Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie creates as much star-power as they could possibly inject into the project, turning it into a veritable slot machine.

the original oceans eleven The 2001 film starred George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy García and Bernie Mac, and was a remake of the original 1960s film. The franchise later received two more sequels with Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007, and recently returned to the big screen with the all-female spin-off Ocean 8.

Ocean’s Eleven Prequel theory

Ocean's Eleven

The plot of the new film is not yet known, but earlier this May, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Carrie Solomon’s screenplay would be an original story “set in 1960s Europe”. I’m just spitting here, but I’m curious to see if the plot will have anything to do with the Berlin Wall. The wall was erected in August 1961, and I think it would be very interesting to see a heist where the crew has to go in and out of East Berlin for one reason or another, like in 2015. The man from UNCLE.

It’s just a theory, but if it ends up being true, you heard it here first!

Plus, since all of the previous films have focused on one member of the “Ocean” family, it’s easy to imagine that this prequel may be about the grandparents or great-grandparents of George Clooney’s character. . Maybe Gosling and Robbie are the original “Oceans” who first developed a case of heist fever and then passed it on to their descendant Danny (seriously, someone is checking that line).

The oceans keep getting bigger! Or… smaller…? Anyway, there will be more oceans.

In addition to starring in the film, Robbie will also produce with partner Tom Ackerley and their production company LuckyChap. The film is set to be directed by Jay Roach, who previously directed Robbie in 2019 Bomb. The film is reportedly aiming to start production in the spring of 2023.
