Downey Jr is on board in a production capacity through his company Team Downey, while the post says the spinoff will center on characters that weren’t introduced in either film.

Speaking of movies, Downey Jr has committed to making a third, with Dexter Fletcher replacing Guy Ritchie as director. The actor has previously hinted at how he’d like a third movie to set up spin-off shows, but it’s unclear if it’s still true that the series is dependent on the movie or could just as well work on its own.

“At this point, we really believe there is no mystery verse built anywhere,” the actor recently said. “Conan Doyle is the definitive voice in this field to date, so to me, why do a third film if you’re not going to be able to mold yourself into some real gems of diversity, and other moments and elements?
