Participant Media CEO David Linde ‘energized’ by industry’s commitment to social change – Banff

He chose Bron for co-producing the Oscar nominee Judas and the Black Messiah, eOne for attendee distribution dark waters and helped bring a film “committed to social change” to the European Parliament, and Lionsgate for its work on Wonder and effective follow-up White Bird: A Wonderful Story.
“People are starting to understand the value of engagement and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Linde told a Banff audience. “There are a lot of people doing what we do in a very specific way and I guess we started.”
Linde went on to say he was “energized” by how more companies have embraced social change over time.
Having joined Participant in 2015 since Arrival producer Lava Bear Films, he explained how the business pivoted during the pandemic when narrative films were difficult to produce.
Instead, the company produced a series of public service announcements about the pandemic, including one using sesame street characters, a series of handwashing shorts featuring the cast of Contagion and The first wave, a documentary on healthcare workers directed by Dr. Nathalie Dougé.
The member of the Oscars Board of Governors said the entrant “views itself as a partnership company with connections to major artists, distributors and impact organizations around the world.”
Participant produces approximately five feature films and five feature documentaries per year, plus television under the direction of Miura Kite, Senior Vice President of Global Television for Participant.
Next up for the entrant is the Shirley Chisholm biopic Shirley with Regina King.
Linde delivered the third keynote address at Banff World Media Festivalfollowing discussions from Netflix’s Bela Bajaria and Universal’s Pearlena Igbokwe.
