A recent trailer takes viewers on a tour of the abbey in Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
The game’s official YouTube channel has released a video to show viewers a glimpse of the secret Midnight Suns headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts. The pictures show different areas of the abbey, including the war room and the library. “Like most things on the ground here, there’s more to this place than meets the eye,” the trailer explained. “This area is particularly sensitive to the forces of magic.”
The base serves as the ancestral home of The Hunter, the child of the game’s villain – Lilith, mother of demons. The Hunter is a customizable character that players can give over 40 different superpowers to. midnight suns released a Halloween prequel short to reveal Lilith’s backstory. Transported to the 1600s, viewers learn that Lilith lost her husband to a devastating plague that killed most of the village. The short, titled “The Salem Sisters,” is just one of five Marvel plans to release ahead of the game’s launch date.
In addition to previous shorts, the game also showed off the gameplay style of Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider. In the six-minute gameplay trailer, narrator Christopher Odd described the character’s playstyle. “Ghost Rider’s playstyle is primarily focused on high damage, but many of his cards have a trade-off that either costs his own health or cards in your hand,” he said. “He also has his own soul meter to fill, and it encourages you to knock out Ghost Rider himself.”
Ghost Rider is just one of the superheroes featured in Midnight suns. The Marvel Comics character joins the likes of Blade, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Magik, Nico Minoru, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. Jacob Solomon, creative director of Firaxis and designer Joe Weinhoffer discussed how the upcoming game could have had a larger character roster.
“The first roster was 20 characters or something, so very quickly we were like, ‘Okay, our production is where it’s not going to be sustainable. We have to narrow that down a bit,” Weinhoffer said. He went on to explain Marvel’s involvement in the development of Midnight suns. “They gave us free rein to use any character we wanted and licensed it or IPed it as a Universe game,” he said. “So we can use the avengers and the mutants and the RunawaysSpider-Man and all supernatural characters.”
Marvel’s Midnight Suns releases December 2, 2022 on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
