Jude Law in Jon Watts’ new Star Wars series Spider-Man 3

star wars Party is officially underway, and Lucasfilm has dropped a bombshell about a brand new series titled Skeleton Crew available soon on Disney+

vanity lounge published a massive article on the state of the star wars franchise earlier this month, where it was revealed that Spider-Man: No Coming Home director Jon Watts was developing a mystery project. The streaming series premiered under the working title “Grammar Rodeo”, and was reportedly inspired by Amblin’s coming-of-age films of the 1980s.

We now have official confirmation of the show’s title, main star, release window, and even some minor plot details for Watts’ first foray into the world of star wars.

Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, a new Disney+ series from Jon Watts, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Christopher Ford. The cast will be led by veteran actor Jude Law and will air in 2023. Watts revealed Skeleton Crew as part of the Lucasfilm star wars Celebration panel, saying the show will revolve around a group of 10-year-olds who get lost in the far reaches of the galaxy and must work to get back to their home planet.

Skeleton Crew will take place after the events of Return of the Jediand will be set in the same period as other series such as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Fans expected to hear news about Andor, The Mandalorianand Ahsoka on the panel, but few expected to know so much about Jon Watts’ secret star wars series. The brief mention in the Vanity Fair article served as a primer for the larger reveal of Skeleton Crewwho continues to develop star wars world that Favreau and Filoni created on Disney+. What’s even more surprising is that the series will debut next year, which means development is much further along than it seemed.

A 2023 release means production will begin in the near future, so even more details on the cast and the creatives behind Skeleton Crew should be out in the next few months.

Putting Skeleton Crew within the same time as The Mandalorian also opens up interesting crossbreeding possibilities. For years Favreau, Filoni and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy have teased a huge Disney+ event connecting all the star wars properties that exist in the same space, and Skeleton Crew is the last piece of this puzzle.

Combining the characters and plots of The Mandalorian, Boba Fett’s Book, Ahsokaand Cr Skeletonew in a special crossover might be the biggest project ever exclusively for Disney+. While the star wars the theatrical slate remains in limbo, building the hype for a Disney+ feature might be the best thing for Disney and Lucasfilm to do.

Even more exciting than the fact that Skeleton Crew what’s happening is it’s going to feature an actor of the caliber of Jude Law in the lead role. Law is no stranger to fantasy worlds, appearing in the MCU with Captain Marveland be part of the Harry Potter franchise by playing a young Albus Dumbledore in the fantastic beasts spin off.

Skeleton Crew won’t be the only Disney+ exclusive Law will be a part of in the near future, as he’s set to portray Captain Hook in the Peter Pan live adaptation Peter Pan and Wendy, which is currently in post-production. Obviously, Law isn’t afraid to be part of IP-focused projects, and Skeleton Crew will mark its debut in the galaxy far, far away.
