Ip Man 4 Casts Scott Adkins

Martial arts star Scott Adkins will star alongside Donnie Yen in the fourth installment of the kung fu biographical film series, Ip Man.

Martial arts star Scott Adkins joins the cast of IP Man 4, the latest installment in the kung fu biographical film series that tells the story of the famous Grandmaster Wing Chun who trained Bruce Lee. Ip Man is played by Donnie Yen.

Actor Scott Atkins has become well known to martial arts fans for his co-starring roles in Undisputed II: The Last Man Standing and several action films with Jean-Claude Van Damme. Adkins has shown his talents as a martial artist with roles in major Hollywood blockbusters such as as X-Men Origin: Wolverine, strange doctorand The Bourne Ultimatum. The actor has also starred in several fan-favorite movies, including Ninja, Undisputed III: Redemptionand Boyka: Undisputed.

Scott Adkins announced on Instagram that he was joining the cast of IP Man 4, currently filming in China. Adkins, who Yen personally asked to take the role, says the Ip-Man movies are “masterpieces of modern martial arts cinema.

Upon its release in 2008, the first Ip-Man The film was a huge critical and commercial success. The film greatly boosted Yen’s popularity in China while exposing him to Western audiences. The two sequels that followed were also box office successes.

Each film in the series has focused on a different part of Ip Man’s life. Ip-Man shows the legendary Wing Chun master facing the Japanese invasion of 1937. With Sammo Hung, IP Man 2 sends the title character to British-occupied Hong Kong in the mid-1940s. In the third film, Ip Man battles a boxer played by Mike Tyson while simultaneously coming to terms with his wife’s impending death. Near the end of the film, Ip Man accepts Bruce Lee as a student.

IP Man 4 is one of four films Yen is shooting this year, along with Big Brother, ice man 2and Enter the Fat Dragon. Directed by Wilson Yip, the IP Man 4 will be set in the 1960s and will be the first installment of the series to be set in America. The film will see Ip Man travel to Seattle to work with Bruce Lee, who has decided to open a Wing Chun school. In the United States, fans can expect Ip Man to clash with American martial artists looking to prove themselves by beating the grandmaster of Wing Chun. It seems likely that one of them will be the character of Scott Adkins.
