Hammer Studios relaunches with Doctor Jekyll starring Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard is set to star in an all-new take on the classic story of Doctor Jekyllwe learned recently, and this week Variety reports this Hammer Studios has now embarked on the project.

The legendary British company has acquired the UK rights to the upcoming film, Variety reports this afternoon, which comes from the B Good Picture Company.

Joe Stephensonit’s Doctor Jekyll is currently filming in the UK.

“In the film, a modern take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic 1886 short story ‘The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,’ Eddie Izzard plays Dr. Nina Jekyll, a recluse who befriends his newly hired helper, Rob, played by an emerging actor Scott Rooms (“Chicken”) and they must work together to stop Hyde from destroying his life.

Dan Kelly Mulhern wrote the screenplay for Hammer’s Doctor Jekyll.

Tim Beddows of Hammer Studios said: “We are thrilled to partner with Joe and his superlative cast and crew on ‘Doctor Jekyll’. There may be few subjects more apt to launch Hammer Studios and the production has everything you would expect from a modern Hammer film.

Last year, Hammer Films partnered with Network Distributing to form Hammer Studios Ltd.the latest evolution from the iconic British film production company.

We were told in November, “Hammer Studios will invest significantly in both restoring and developing new productions from its IP and new IP.”

Doctor Jekyll will be the first film released under this initiative.
